MARQUETTE MALL: MICHIGAN CITY, IN

Marquette Mall has been insanely dead for years. Pretty much all businesses pulled out of it and it’s locked down.
It was wonderful, though! I remember walking around the huge JcPenney’s that my grandma had also worked at. It was so busy around a decade ago. There were lots of stores inside, but none I can really remember the name of. The Sears was, well, Sears. There was also a buffet inside that I never ate at because I heard about the food getting people sick. Seems like every buffet to be honest… anyways. There were also a ton of things for kids, including a small Funflatables building outside and of course, everything inside. I vaguely remember a Build-a-Bear too, but I might be thinking of a different mall. There was a lot more stuff too, but I can’t remember their names. Just regular stores and attractions you’d find at a mall!
I always liked the little open entrance area that showed the 2nd floor and had a State Farm office in there. Thought it was neat. Going down the halls were fun. They were pretty dim, but that can be a good thing for some! Most of the people that went were trying to relax and have a nice time with the people they know, and bright fluorescent lights SUCK.
It was a lot older and not as cool and big and advanced looking as other malls, but it still was a great mall. I miss it.
Having a little bit of insider info, there are very few employees there now. It’s that bad… Some parts of the office building are used from time to time, but it is practically abandoned.
It was so fun to explore though when I was given the opportunity (legally, seriously). They haven’t repaired much of the inside.
Would love to see it revived, but I guess it remains a relic of Michigan City that’s gonna either be used for something else (after fixing up the building of course lol) or demolished in the future.

Although anchor stores remain in place at the corners (Sears, Carson's, Pennys) the interior of the mall is full of vacancies. The smaller interior tenants have a short life expectancy. The office building is undermaintained and out of date. Remodeling efforts have been valient, but of little help.
